The Colt 1836 patent expired in 1857, and the next year, Remington introduced a solid-frame design that was both elegant and reliable. The 1858 Remington became so famous that it was the prevailing choice of military officers following the Civil War. Its full-frame design still makes it a top choice for black powder shooters today as the cylinder can be removed without taking the firearm completely apart, unlike the Colt models.
The case-hardened charcoal blued engraved Remington features case hardened steel engraved frame, brass trigger guard, charcoal blue engraved octagonal barrel, dovetail front blade sight, and walnut two-piece grips.
The Charcoal Blue finish is a delicate over-oxidized bluing and when new it is a bright blue color, but over time with use it will naturally patina to a soft grey. The engraving is laser engraved standard.
