Muzzleloader Safety and Marksmanship

The Muzzleloader Safety and Marksmanship course provides structured instruction in the safe handling, loading, and firing of traditional muzzleloading firearms. This course focuses on developing the correct mindset, procedures, and fundamentals required to operate muzzleloaders safely and effectively, with an emphasis on deliberate shooting, accuracy, and historical shooting practices.
Instruction covers the unique characteristics of muzzleloading firearms, including ignition systems, powder handling, projectile selection, and the step-by-step loading process. Students will apply fundamental marksmanship skills while learning the additional safety considerations specific to black powder and black powder substitutes.

Prerequisites
No prior muzzleloader experience is required. Students should be familiar with general firearm safety principles. All participants must demonstrate safe handling and follow instructor guidance at all times.

Firearm Guidelines
To ensure safety and consistency during instruction, all firearms used in this course must meet the following requirements:

Firearms must be true muzzleloading firearms with the primer/ignition source and powder charge loaded separately.

Self‑contained cartridges are not permitted.

Projectiles must be loaded from the muzzle and seated using a ramrod.

Powder may be premeasured and rolled prior to the course or measured on site using a powder flask and proper powder measure.

All firearms must be clean, safe, and in proper working condition prior to use in the course.

Firearms that do not meet these requirements, or are deemed unsafe by the instructor, may be excluded from live-fire activities.
- Instructor Authority: The instructor reserves the right to inspect, restrict, or refuse any firearm deemed unsafe or unsuitable for the course. Compliance with the instructor’s assessment is mandatory for participation.
Powder and Projectiles:
Muzzleloaders require specific powder types and projectiles appropriate to each firearm. These items may be purchased directly from Revenant Trading Company and will be delivered to the student at the time of the course, ensuring compatibility and compliance with course requirements.
Rental Firearms:
Limited rental muzzleloaders may be available at an additional rate. Availability is limited and must be arranged in advance.
