Scalping Knife with Sheath
This classic frontier-style knife was among the most common blades of the fur trade era, finding its way to nearly every corner of the West. Known as a “scalping knife” not for its grim associations, but rather as a trade term coined by early fur traders, it originally referred to the inexpensive butcher-style knives made for trade with Native peoples. Over time, a distinctive form evolved — practical, balanced, and ruggedly elegant.
Our Scalping Knife faithfully reflects that tradition. It features a hardwood handle accented with brass wire wrapping at either end, providing a secure and well-balanced grip. The 7" carbon steel blade is paired with an overall length of 11½", offering the reach and versatility prized by trappers, traders, and frontiersmen alike.
Each knife includes a heavy, hand-stitched leather sheath, ready for use on the belt or display in any period kit. Unlike modern stainless reproductions, these blades are forged from true carbon steel, capable of being blued for a dark historical finish and added rust protection.
Handcrafted in Utah.
Because each knife is individually made, slight variations in size, shape, and color are part of their authenticity and character.
